Major Deeksha C. Mudadevannawar has created history by becoming the first woman officer to be awarded the prestigious Baladan Badge of the Indian Army’s Para Special Forces.

Her journey from serving as a Regimental Medical Officer to training as a doctor reflects extraordinary determination, resilience and courage.

The selection process for the Para Special Forces is known to be one of the toughest in the Indian Army, with most dropping out due to the extreme rigors of the training. Despite facing initial physical setbacks during training, Major Deeksha, rather than getting discouraged, persevered and continued on until she successfully completed the training she chose.

Receiving the Baladan Badge, also known as the “Badge of Worship”, is not only a personal achievement but also a significant milestone in a traditionally male-dominated country.

After training, her service during Operation Dost in Turkey demonstrated her dedication and preparedness in a real combat environment. Her dedication to duty, staying with soldiers even in the most challenging conditions, successfully fulfilled the role of an Army Medical Officer.

Today, Major Deeksha is a role model for young women, NCC cadets and aspiring soldiers across India. Her story shows that discipline, courage and perseverance can open up even the most challenging paths in a national service like the Army.
